Hi,
I have a strange situation. - PEP2.1.18.0 - Vista 32
The symbols have disappeared in Button Properties > Label. I can click on "use symbol", but all the characters have the same symbol, something like [], which is probably indicating there is something missing.
What I tried to do is delete all Pronto versions (PE4, PEP1 and PEP2), clean out traces on harddisk and register and installed everything again.
No luck PEP2 still won't let me use symbols.
Another thing I notified is that I only have 1 font available, ProntoMaestro. That is no problem but I remember there used to be a choice of more fonts in the dropdown box.
In PEP1 everything works normal. |

Might be because you are missing fonts, that would make sense in a way, I'll pack the fonts I have up in a zip and upload them for you
EDIT: Here you go, it's not only the official ones, as I don't know the complete list of the official ones: http://www.mediafire.com/?ic4yyjmnmrg
Hope this helps |

Thanks but the only one from your zip file I don't have installed is "fireflysung". Installing that one didn't solve the problem.
All fonts appear properly in the windows font directory and all characters & symbols are available if I look with Windows Character Map tool. Copy>Paste from Character Map to PEP2 doesn't work.
Anyway thanks for your efforts |

When entering text, you should have a choice of 8 fonts.
AR PL New Sung Designer Block English FashionVictim FreeSans FreeSerif laCartoonerie ProntoMaestro
Symbols only uses the ProntoMaestro font.
First, check that you can use the ProntoMaestro font in Word.
Try removing all eight Pronto fonts, then reinstalling PEP V2.

Also the file ProntoEdit Professional 2.0.exe.config in the install directory should contain:
<add key="Fonts" value="AR PL New Sung,Designer Block,English,FashionVictim,FreeSans,FreeSerif,laCartoonerie,ProntoMaestro" /> <add key="AR PL New Sung" value="fireflysung.ttf" /> <add key="Designer Block" value="DesignerBlock.ttf" /> <add key="English" value="English.ttf" /> <add key="FashionVictim" value="FashionVictim.ttf" /> <add key="FreeSans" value="FreeSans.ttf" /> <add key="FreeSerif" value="FreeSerif.ttf" /> <add key="laCartoonerie" value="laCartoonerie.ttf" /> <add key="ProntoMaestro" value="ProntoMaestro.ttf" /> |

They all exist in the Windows font directory

Done, but still not working. However, after deleting the 8 fonts but before uninstalling PEP2, I tried to start it up PEP2 to see how it would react on all missing fonts. No complains, it still shows ProntoMaestro font available but no symbols. But i suspect the problem is the all pronto fonts are fully ignored and PEP2 uses a generic font like Arial. That could also explain why I see no symbols. I compared the font as typed in Word with the one's i type in PEP and it is not the same font. But the dropdownbox in PEP2 says ProntoMaestro. Again, there are no other fonts available in PEP2, so I think they are all missing (or misconfigured) but PEP2 still shows the ProntoMaestro but uses another font. I don't know exactly how he maestro font should look like in PEP2 but in Word the capital "I" is shown as a Serif font. What I type in PEP2 is no Serif font.
After uninstalling and reinstalling PEP2 this situation is still the same.

Yes, as how it works in Vista. |

I'm going to go in a completely different direction here.
There have been problems in the past with Microsoft XML parser. You may need to reinstall it. I can't remember the exact details but search for something like XML4. Lyndel might be able to help here. |

Thanks Peter,
I'll wait for Lyndel to see if he can point me somewhere before installing something. In the mean time I will send the Pronto team a mail with the problem and link to this thread.
Can I place images here to show how it looks? I don't see a toolbar to do so.

XML Parser does get itself into trouble every so often, especially if you've had to add/remove programs that use its services. Sometimes shared components get pooched during an app un-install.
You can try doing a repair on it through add/remove programs: MSXML Parser 6.0 offers a detect and repair option.
If you find that the parser is not installed: Microsoft KB933579, KB936181, KB954430 should lead you to the Parser and XML sutff. |

Find MSXML4.dll on your hard drive. Open a command prompt to that directory and enter the following:
regsvr32 MSXML4.dll
To reregister.
There were also some issues earlier for some using LargeFonts settings or something like that. Something about the software only liking 96dpi. This could have some affect as a different character set other than 'Symbol' might be selected for large fonts. |
