Just upgraded my SD system to HD and I want to buy a RF remote control. Everything will be behind solid wood doors in a solid wood AV piece of furniture. The system it would control is :
Panasonic 58PZ800 Plasma Denon 3808 AVR PS3 (160GB) Blu-ray/Gaming Sony DVD/CD (400 box) Older storage/playing unit Sony CD (200 box) Older storage/playing unit Defitive Tech Speakers Rel T2 sub
Would like the Harmony One but no RF!! Would like the Harmony 890 , RF but no touch screen!! Still reviewing this until. Price $300-$500 Self programable (KISS Principle) |

| I would recomnd URCs MX-450 and a MRF-350. They are much more durable than the Harmony remotes. Also keep in mind, that none of the remotes will control the PS3 without an aftermarket IR kit. |

Iwould make a couple of suggestions, if you are looking for a wand style remote control, then my go to piece is the URC MX-980 coupled with an MRF-350 for rf communications. It is extremely versatile and capaple of controlling your entire system* exc PS3 unless you get a 3rd party IR adapter *. The downside is that you will probably have to get a programmer to program it for you. but the benefits far outweigh this as programmers are generaaly very knowledgable as to what the best way a system should work is.
If you are looking for a touch panel then the MX-3000 is an exellent product with very good reliablity and unlimited customization options. I don't know how much you were looking to spend but i would stay with URC unless you are looking for 2-way communications...
MX-980 699.99 MX-3000 999.99 MRF-350 249.99-required for Rf communication |

If you're going to get into the likes of the MX-3000, then the Philips ProntoPro models should also be mentioned. The TSU-9400 has a msrp of $899 and blows the doors off the 3000.
IMHO
Of course none of these options are even remotely (pun intended) close to his desired budget, and are far removed from the KISS princible. |

i would go with the harmony 890 due to your budget and motto.
you wont have a touchscreen, but most people dont want them after having them (unless refering to a panel type remote opposed to a wand style). they're neat at first, but annoying after awhile, as you always have to look at the remote. |

| I would do a search for URC's MX-810. It seems to be a great remote and is in your price range including a MRF-260 rf exender. And if you have problems setting it up, then look for a dealer in your area. |

$300.00 to $500.00 for an RF based control system? Probably not going to happen with material, install, and programming.
To quote one of my favorite customers who owned Colorado's largest catering company - "You don't get steak for chicken prices"
If you are going behind solid wood doors and want a wand remote with a touchscreen.
RTI - T2Cs http://www.rticorp.com/products/t2cs.html
RTI - RP6 http://www.rticorp.com/products/RP6.html I use an RP6 since I can jumper up to 4 antennas for flawless transmission but you can try an RP1 for budget.
T2Cs - $699.00 retail RP6 - $599.00 retail RP1 - $399.00 retail
Do like the Pronto's as well, will sell either of those over the MX-3000.
Good luck!

check out the pronto tsu-9200
it is rf capable, will cost you less then $300 if you search properly ..
the programming is a mix between harmony and a fully customizable remote . .
its wizard based, but lets you play with the macros anyway you want . .
its not a touch screen but have a very unique interface with a scroll wheel control ipod like interface.
the harmony remotes are physically decent remotes, but the software is so limiting that you will be pressing the help button on the remote at least once or twice a day when using it. fail. |

Well some are.
The harmony 550 is well built.
The 800 series are complete crap. So is the 1000...
But as a low end remote ... Build quality is not expected to be perfect.. The main thing holding back these remotes is the software.
There should be a pro version...
That would make it a better choice for low end systems... |
