First off thanks for your time and advice, as I'm rather lost in the world of remotes.
I've been looking at the Logitech Harmony One and 1000 as a solution for my Home Theater.
My requirements are as follows: 1) Atleast 5 to 10 different appliances 2) Simple Macro's (ie turn on several devices, correct output channel etc...) 3) RF Possibility (not all devices will have line of sight due to some being in a cabinet) *
*) #3 is a compromise with my girlfriend, due to the large amount of different appliances (tv, receiver, digital tv box, dvd player, bluray player, WII etc) and there is no good way to place them and not having to go with a special tv stand, so some will be inside the cabinet and wont have line of sight for IR control.
Suggestions on this are also very welcome.
One last thing and I'm not sure if I'm being too picky here but I dont like those stick on IR repeaters as they tend to fall off, be accidently moved and being quite ugly and difficult to clean around.
Again much obliged for all the help and time. |

when using RF, you have no choice but to use those sticky things (emitters).
a lot of people actually open up the devices and run the emitters inside the actual device so you dont see it . .
depending on what devices you have (and if they have "discrete power" commands)
i would go with a phillips pronto tsu9200 with rfx9200 base,
its easy to program (well easier then other custom remotes) but slightly more difficult then harmony remotes.
the key is they are a lot more customizable then harmony, and once you have it set up right, you will have it work right everytime.
the harmony remotes assume they know the power status of all devices and are usually wrong , requiring you to press the help button on the remote half the time. |

also, the harmony one is not RF, and the harmony 1000 doesnt have the right amount of hard buttons (usually with a touch screen its nice to have a few hard buttons that can be mapped to transports (rr, ff,play, etc) and guide info exit . .)
when its all on a touch screen, you constantly have to look at the remote and when ff through a commercial and waiting to press play , staring at the tv and the remote becomes annoying. |

Thanks for the reply... eventhough Philips is a Dutch company, I have never seen or heard of that line of Philips remotes here....
They did launch a new remote which is similar to the Harmony One, but its macro functions are more limited. (It can turn on the tv and receiver but it cant also select the correct input channel)
[edit] I did a bit of checking and the Philips Pronto is twice the price of the harmony 1000 and at that price it doesnt have RF capabilities yet... so eventhough I think its a superior solutions, its a bit beyond budget.
The w1000 has indeed very few buttons and its an excellent point against it... much obliged for pointing that out to us as we didnt realize this. [/edit]

the pront tsu9200 is $135 on amazon, and the RF base for it is $140
thats $275 for RF and remote. its got usb programming, and is capable of more advanced macros then harmony. |

Woah... not sure if amazon ships that here but for reference purposes just the remote lists here at almost 500 usd...hence why I declared it out of budget.
Much obliged for the heads up on the amazon deal. |

the harmony 1000 also "retails" at $500
but internet pricing says different for both of them.
let me know if you have any more questions . . |

Slight confusion on my choice of words... the harmony 1000 I can buy here for approximately 225 euro (which is approximately 300 usd I think) the philips pronto I can hardly find at all and when I do its usually 400 euro (500 usd)
I think this is mostly because the Pronto was never released here officially... basicly here when you look for universal remotes all you see is the harmony line and the normal cheaper solutions.
Unfortunately Amazon doesnt ship these items to Europe... (I wish my TV would be a whole lot cheaper at Amazon....even with shipping :( |

keep in mind with both remotes, you still have to buy the RF base . .
i would continue trying to find pronto, installed one today for a client. way better then harmony. maybe try ebay?
ive installed over 200 harmony remotes. i can now say . .they are terrible. |
