Hi,
I am looking for an RF remote. All of my equipment is in my basement and my LCD is up stairs.

I think I have limited my options down to TSU 9200 and a MX-450.
The thing that I think they are lacking is a hard macro button. I often have visitors that get the whole system messed up and I need a single key to bring the system back to normal (because I am not home a the time to help).

I like the TSU9200 a lot because of the PC interface. The MX-450 to me seems like it may be hard to set up with out it.

I have a Onkyo receiver, Dish Network with DVR, Onkyo DVD and a sharp LCD.

Any tips about a hard macro with these or some other remote would help.

I do have cat 5 running from LCD to basement. Right now it is connected to a IR receiver that sends signals to my basement. I like it but everyone in the house hates it. It is buried above my fireplace because the LCD interferes with it. The only way I could fix it was to push it back into the fireplace. It is hard to hit it at certain angles of the couch.

Onkyo TXSR605
Dish VIP622DVR
DVD Toshiba SD-6000
I will be getting another DVD sometime in the future.

I only think the LCD has rs232. I have communicated to it via the PC.

I my price range is 300-400.

i would say that the tsu9200 is a great remote.
just installed one today.

the reason i ask about the cat5 in between the equipment and the lcd,
is because you can keep the RF base (rfx9200) near the lcd,
and splice all the emitters via cat5 to basement.
ensuring you have proper rf reception at all times.
you can also then put an IR emitter on the lcd itself ,
that way you dont have to point the remote at the tv ever . .

programming via PC is a huge feature that i wouldnt trade out for anything.

where in ny are you located?
im in ny too.

let me know if you need any more help.

Oh that is a great idea..... I never thought of that. That solution would work perfect.

I have done some reading and did not see a hard macro for this device? Is this possible?

I live in Syracuse NY. About a 5 hr drive from you. I assume you sell these remotes? If so could I buy one through you?

Thanks

truthfully you can get it on amazon for cheaper.
heh . . sad but true.

you would need a tsu9200 and an rfx9200

what do you mean by hard macro?

you can make any hard or soft button on the remtoe act as a macro.

I need one button that will always be the same (never move) and I can program it to turn on my TV, Receiver, and Dish with one push. A second push would turn everything off. I need this button to always work.

Also my assumption is that if one of these devices gets out of sync (like the receiver gets shut off while the tv and dish are on) I can not make a macro to auto fix it. The only way would be RS232 communication (if all devices supported it). Only my TV does right now.

With the TSU9200 you can assign a macro to any Hard Button you like.Usually you would create an activity on the Home Page one for ALL ON and one for ALL OFF using discrete on off codes which make it more reliable than Toggle codes (Power On/Off) and if you don`t have discrete`s for all your devices there usually work around`s you can use.
You can also make each device come on in each activity you use and just have an off activity but this way makes jumping from one activity to another a longer process due to delays etc.
Or you can assign a ALL ON and ALL OFF Macro to the ON and OFF hard button but you would have to set up these macro`s on each Activity.
There are many ways to do it.

Whatever floats your boat!

Have you downloaded the Pronto Configurator to see what it like?

No I have not done that yet but it sounds like from what you stated above I can do what I want. I will download the software and see what it can do.

Thank you all and happy new year!

what i do,

i disable the ON/Off buttons on the top of the remote as they are more of a pain then anything.

i then make several activities on the main screen.

Watch TV
Watch DVD
Apple TV
Listen To Radio
All Off

anytime you want to do something, you goto the home screen and choose one of those choices. very simple.

as long as you have discrete codes , if you shut off your receiver from the receiver itself while in the middle of the activity, next time you start another activity , it will turn it back on . . due to discrete codes.

a discrete power code means you have two separate IR commands for power,
one is called Power On, one is called Power Off.

you can press power on a million times and it will never turn off the unit. it will just make sure its on, if its not, it will turn on.

Power off will do the same, always make sure its off, so you can press it as many times as you want and it will just shut off.

so in the All Off activity, you just put in the Power Off code for each devices (tv power off, receiver power off, cable power off, dvd power off, etc)

In watch tv
you set Power on for tv, power on recevier, power on cable, video 7 tv, video 3 receiver , jump to page: tv favorites

for watch dvd , power on tv, power on recevier ,power on dvd, video 7 tv, video 2 receiver, jump to page: dvd More

now some devices dont have discrete power codes
thats when you have to get inventive.

for instance, the dvd player might not have discrete power,
but the Play command usually turns on the the DVD player.

so how do we take advantage of this?

when you choose the activity for Watch DVD, instead of the power on code for dvd, you send the play code for dvd.

but what about shutting it off?
in the All Off activity, instead of Power Off from dvd,
you would put two seperate codes for DVD.
DVD - Play
DVD - Power Toggle

basically what this does is turns on the dvd player (play) and then turns it right off with power toggle.

a little difficult to understand,
and im sure i didnt describe it so well (a bit hung over .. happy new year!)

but once you try it ,
you'll understand better.

Oh no you described it perfect.

My next question is how do I find out if my equipment has discrete power on and off codes? And if the have them can any remote do this or just the higher end?

I have done the JPL (not sure if this is what it is called) on an old remote that I got from Radio Shack so I can get down and dirty if necessary.

The $ total that I thought I could spend seems to have been cut. My wife rejected paying $300 for a remote. So I may need to look some more. I am sure if I work on her a bit I will get it. So I am not counting the TSU9200 out. : )

in regards to discrete power,
the harmony remote does not use this.
the harmony remotes try and "remember" the
last power state of said device, but is often wrong.
thats what makes the harmonys so crappy.

most pc programmable remotes let you use macros,
and as long as you can find the codes for the device you want,
you should be good to go.

you can usually find IR codes for a device on the internet somewhere,
and copy and paste them in to software.

pronto software is available online

http://www.pronto.philips.com/index.cfm?id=1618

click there and on the right of the page is the download link.
you can start programming . .

just get the remote and tell your wife it only cost $200 ; )
im sure u can figure something out . .

or wait till after CES and see if anything new comes out,
or if the price drops some more on tsu9200 . .

regarding knowing if your device has discretes . .
i know the sharp lcd should, the onkyo def should,
not sure about dvd , but most dvd players turn on with play button,
and dish - never used dish but im sure if you search the dish model number and the words discrete power you mgiht find something on it . .
