My inlaws just got a new Sony LCD tv. They need an inexpensive remote that will control their cable box (see above), power on for Sony Bravia KDL46V4100 TV and learning capability to learn volume +/- and mute for a Zenith XBS344 DVD/VCR receiver home theater.

I got the original Scientific Atlanta remote to do everything except control the volume of the combination DVD/VCR with built-in receiver.

It would be great if the remote was less than $50.

Thanks for the suggestion. They do not have internet access and I live too far away to program at home, go to their house and try it and take it back home to tweak, etc.

I'd like one with preprogrammed codes and learning capability for what isn't in the code library.

Any other suggestions?

Cheap learning remote such as Sony RM-VL600. Or the cluttered-looking learning remote from Radio Shack that is about the same price ($30). Both could learn all the buttons from the devices.

Does Harmony have any type of standalone software that doesn't require internet access?

OTAHD: Nope.

Sony RM-VL600 or RM-VL610, URC R5 or R6 should all get the job done in your budget.

I couldn't find the Sony remotes locally so I purchased the RS 15-134 yesterday. I went today and programmed it for them. It worked well for their needs. Thanks!
