| Review: | While I am continually amazed at how much this device can do, I am tempered in my amazement by the effort it take to make it do what it does. I was fairly sucessful in adding some components and getting them to respond correctly, but while I can control the volume of my audio with the hard buttons regardless of the source I am watching, I still can't change sources! Learning commands for components that are not already in the database is a lot like trying to pick prickley pears off a cactus- you can get stuck a lot of times before you get the reward. What had sold me on the Pronto was the ability to control an Escient Fireball music server without having to use a video monitor. It does this quite well, but I could have bought an Escient Touchscreen for about a quarter of the price, and my Wi-fi PocketPC phone could control it as well for free. I wanted to have everything on one remote, and so far I haven't been able to set up the Pronto to do that. I also want it to be wife/kid freindly, which is what it was designed to be. I know it is possible to achieve this, but I am not there yet, and I have been trying for weeks. I'm getting closer, but this remote is certainly not for the novice, and probably not even for a lot of IT professionals. Good build quality. Lots of features. Poor value. |
